Hi again to our lovely parents, caregivers, grandparents, friends and our buddy class!
The term has been picking up quickly with our 'Sandpit' Topic starting!
In term 2 this year we are having 'Sandpit' term. This means that the teachers and the classes can choose a topic that they love and are passionate about. It's like playing, building and creating in the sandpit.
For our 'Sandpit' Topic our class has chosen to do Earth Science - Rocks and Minerals. We had our first introductory lesson on Monday. We learnt about the three types of rocks: igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic.
Miss D has brought in a bunch of rocks and stones for us to look at.
This week we are learning more about sedimentary rocks and what can be trapped in between. Sedimentary rocks are soft and layered. One layer can be very deep. Layers can be made up of the same sediment or minerals, or they can be mixed.
We are making our own sedimentary rocks by mixing sand and plaster together and forming different coloured layers with dye.
We will show you them when we have finished!
Have a great weekend and please comment if you have any knowledge you would like to share with us about rocks and minerals!
Kia ora whanau and tamariki, welcome to our classroom! We are a year 6, digital one to one class which means that each child uses a chromebook for their learning. We love to have fun and stretch our thinking by asking questions and working with each other.
